Meadowside Blending selected this Cameronbridge, a 46 year old single grain distilled in 1976, from cask 900005 and bottled at 46.2%. Only 220 bottles were released. Cameronbridge was founded in 1824 by John Haig, of the great Haig distilling family, in Fife. As well as grain whisky, it makes the neutral spirit for Gordon's and Tanqueray gin and Smirnoff vodka.

The spirit was made in continuous stills from wheat for a light spirit, for a light, sweet make of real purity. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, with vanilla and crème brûlée. Long ageing brings a deep coconut, toffee and a mellow, polished oak. Light grain takes oak readily, the ex-Bourbon lending coconut and vanilla. The Haig distilling dynasty traces its roots in Scottish whisky back to the 1600s. The distillery sits at Windygates in the Kingdom of Fife, near the River Leven. Light grain spirit like this gains coconut and toffee from decades in active oak.

At its natural 46.2% it is concentrated. The ex-Bourbon gives a sweet, oily vanilla. A crème brûlée and a polished oak give it depth. A long, oily finish carries a coconut lift. This is the clean, sweet grain of Cameronbridge.
