Description

Hunter Laing has bottled single casks since 2013 and is building a distillery on Islay. A 26 year old Littlemill, from cask HL 14492, this was distilled in 1988 and bottled in 2015, part of the Old & Rare - A Platinum Selection series. A lost distillery leaves only what was already laid down, and those reserves grow thinner each year.

Held in Oloroso for twenty-six years, the cask works its fruit into Littlemill's gentle, grassy make.

At its natural 54.6%, the Oloroso adds dried fruit, nutmeg and polished oak. On the palate, a mineral edge, a cooked-mash note, honey. The cask's residual Oloroso and wood spice give fig, walnut and warm nutmeg, tannins framing the light spirit. Long maturation has cost the cask dearly to the angels, easing the alcohol and leaving a deeper, concentrated spirit.
