Description
Hunter Laing was formed in 2013 when Stewart Laing split from Douglas Laing, taking the Old Malt Cask and Old & Rare ranges. Distilled in 1988, this 27 year old Littlemill was bottled in 2016, in the Old & Rare - A Platinum Selection range. Littlemill can never be made again, so each cask emptied is one fewer forever.
Twenty-seven years in ex-Bourbon frame Littlemill's elegant Lowland character.
At 54.6%, undiluted, soft vanilla and oak come from the ex-Bourbon. On the palate, honey, a sherried character, a hay-like note, a malt note, an oily texture, old wood. American oak is low in tannin, so the cask works gently, hemicellulose caramelising to light toffee and lignin yielding vanilla. Long maturation has cost the cask dearly to the angels, easing the alcohol and leaving a deeper, concentrated spirit.
