Description
This 9 year old from 2014 is the sibling to cask 650 in Kilchoman's Sister Casks, A Maturation Journey, an ex-Bourbon single cask number 653 giving 248 bottles for Germany. The pair shows how casks filled together can diverge. Set up by Anthony Wills in 2005, Kilchoman remains Islay's only farm distillery.
Malting, distilling and bottling all happen on the farm, the barley to bottle way. Matured in a single ex-Bourbon cask over nine years, the wood frames the young peated spirit.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 56.7%. The ex-Bourbon gives vanilla while peat phenols carry the smoke. The recorded note is dried hay over the smoky, maritime core. The twin bourbon cask to 650.
