Description
A Wolfburn single malt, a 4 year old from 2013, cask 446, 447, 449, bottled at 50%. Just 1440 bottles were filled. Set on the wild Caithness coast at Thurso, Wolfburn has made single malt since 2013. Everything is done by hand here, from milling to bottling, in the manner of a true small distillery.
The spirit was made by hand in copper stills at Thurso, to build a soft, fruity, coastal character. An ex-Bourbon barrel or quarter cask shaped it, vanilla beneath the fruit. Still young, it is fresh and fruity with a coastal lift. Quarter casks, smaller than usual, speed the exchange between spirit and wood. Hand filling and hand labelling are still the rule in the warehouses here. A young distillery, Wolfburn has built a following quickly since its first single malt in 2016. The far north air, salt laden and cool, lends the maturing spirit a coastal edge.
At 50%, undiluted, it is bright and full. A fresh, fruity coastal sweetness, and the bourbon cask adds vanilla and a gentle sweetness. It is clean and fruity, the young spirit shining through. A fruity, gently saline finish lingers. This is a fruity Highland malt from Scotland's most northerly mainland distillery.
