Description
West Cork Bog Oak Charred Cask is a single malt from West Cork Distillers in Skibbereen, Co. Cork, part of the experimental Glengarriff Series that explores unusual cask treatments. This 2017 bottling carries no age statement and takes its name from the ancient timber used to char the wood.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak charred with bog oak, timber preserved for millennia in Irish peat bogs, it draws an earthy, savoury edge over dried fruit, citrus and orchard fruit. Bottled at 43%, it is a curiosity built on a young Cork malt, the bog oak char giving a distinctive earthy depth rather than heavy smoke.
