Description
Villa Sandi is a well known producer in the Conegliano Valdobbiadene DOCG, the hilly zone at the top of the Prosecco pyramid in Veneto. This Superiore is made entirely from Glera grown on calcareous moraine soils with clay, which lend the wine a fine minerality and balanced structure. It is a tank-method wine, with gentle whole-cluster pressing and temperature-controlled fermentation at 15 to 16 degrees to preserve the fresh fruit and floral aromas rather than build autolytic depth. The Extra Dry dosage gives a pleasant, accessible fruitiness rather than obvious sweetness, which is part of why this style has such a broad following.
The colour is light straw with a fine, persistent bead. The nose is elegant, with green apple, pear and white peach over white flowers and a subtle citrus note. The palate is fresh and harmonious, with fine fruit, lively structure and a soft, mineral-tinged finish that reads as a light saline lift. Serve well chilled at around 6 to 8 degrees. It works as an elegant aperitif and alongside marinated fish, herb-dressed pasta and light starters.
