Description
Veuve Clicquot has been based in Reims since 1772, and this rosé is a house icon, first created by Madame Clicquot in 1818. It builds on the famous Brut Yellow Label, blending Pinot Noir at around half, with Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier, and adding roughly a tenth red wine from top Champagne crus for colour and aromatic depth. The wine is made by the traditional method, with a second fermentation in the bottle and several years on the lees, which builds a creamy texture and a bready, nutty layer beneath the red fruit. The Brut dosage keeps the finish dry and precise.
The colour is a bright copper pink with a fine, lively perlage. The nose leads with ripe strawberry, raspberry and cherry, backed by almond, brioche and dried fruit from the long lees ageing. The palate is fresh and full bodied, with a precise balance of fruit and acidity, a creamy texture and a long, fruity finish carrying a subtle mineral edge. Serve well chilled at around 8 to 10 degrees. It works as an aperitif and alongside beef carpaccio, salmon tartare, scallops and duck.
