Description
Veuve Clicquot has been based in Reims since 1772, and Brut Yellow Label is its signature wine. The cuvee is led by Pinot Noir at around 56 percent for structure and depth, with Chardonnay for freshness and elegance and Pinot Meunier for fullness and fruit. It is made by the traditional method, with a second fermentation in the bottle and a long ageing on the lees, which builds the biscuity, nutty complexity that defines the house style. The Brut dosage keeps the finish dry, balancing the fruit against the autolytic depth.
The colour is a radiant golden yellow with a lively perlage. The nose is finely nuanced, with white orchard fruit, ripe pear and apple, delicate citrus and a hint of brioche from the long maturation. The palate is balanced and structured, with fruit lifted by hints of vanilla, toasted almond and a subtle mineral edge, closing long and elegant. Serve well chilled at around 8 degrees. It works as an aperitif and alongside sushi, fresh oysters and scallops.
