Description
This is a Veuve Clicquot Brut Réserve cuvee presented in a gift box, from the house founded in Reims in 1772. It is built in the classic house style, a Pinot Noir led blend with Chardonnay for freshness and Pinot Meunier for roundness. The wine is made by the traditional method, with a second fermentation in the bottle and extended ageing on the lees, which builds the bready, nutty complexity that runs through the range. The Brut dosage keeps the finish dry, holding the fruit in balance against the autolytic depth, and the presentation box makes it a ready gift.
The colour is a bright golden yellow with a fine, lively perlage. The nose shows ripe orchard fruit, white peach and citrus over a hint of brioche from the lees ageing. The palate is structured and balanced, with fruit carried by toasted almond, a subtle mineral thread and a long, elegant finish. Serve well chilled at around 8 degrees. It works as an aperitif and alongside oysters, white fish and hard nutty cheese.
