Description
Veuve Clicquot, founded in 1772 in Reims, builds Yellow Label around Pinot Noir, which makes up a little over half the blend and gives the wine its strength and structure, with Chardonnay for elegance and a touch of Pinot Meunier for fruit. A large share of reserve wines from several harvests holds the house style steady. Made by the traditional method, the wine ages on the lees to develop the brioche and toasted character that defines it, with the Brut dosage keeping the finish dry.
The wine is a radiant golden yellow with a lively bead. The nose reveals white fruit, ripe pear and apple over delicate citrus and a hint of brioche that points to the lees ageing. The palate is balanced and structured, freshness set against fullness, the fruit joined by vanilla, toasted almond and a subtle mineral note into a long, lively finish. Serve at 8 degrees in a white wine glass. It works as an aperitif and alongside shellfish, white fish and hard nutty cheeses.
