Description
Veuve Clicquot base this non vintage Brut on Pinot Noir, which gives the house its structure and body, rounded out with Chardonnay for freshness and Pinot Meunier for fruit. A generous library of reserve wines is folded into each blend to hold the style steady from year to year. The wine goes through its second fermentation in bottle in the traditional method, then rests on the lees in Reims cellars, where slow autolysis builds the toast and biscuit character that sits under the fruit. A Brut dosage keeps it dry and balanced.
The wine is a full gold with a fine, steady stream of bubbles. Apple, pear and white peach lead the nose, backed by toasted bread, a light brioche note and a creamy touch. The palate is broad and structured, with orchard fruit and citrus over a biscuity base, closing dry and long. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees in a white wine glass. A dependable aperitif that also handles shellfish, white fish and hard cheeses.
