Description
A Tobermory single malt, selected and bottled by Douglas of Drumlanrig, a 6 year old release from 2006, drawn from cask LD 8766 and bottled at 46%. A release of 240 bottles. Tobermory is the fruity, unpeated side of the only distillery on the Isle of Mull. Burn Stewart revived the distillery in 1993, and Distell of South Africa bought it in 2013.
The spirit was made in the high reflux stills from unpeated barley, for a fruity, waxy make with a green lift. A sherry cask wrapped the waxy spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth. At this age the spirit is fresh and fruity, the wax and a green note bright. Sherry wood suits the oily make, lending dried fruit and a nutty depth. The distillery sits at the head of the bay, beneath a steep wooded hill. Both malts feed the Scottish Leader and Black Bottle blends as well as single malt. The distillery was refurbished and its stills renewed between 2017 and 2019.
Reduced to 46%, it is mellow. Pear, oily malt and a green note, and the Oloroso lends raisin, walnut and a dried fruit richness. A green note and a gentle spice give it depth. Wax and ripe fruit see out a long finish. This is the fruity side of the Isle of Mull's distillery.
