Description
A Tobermory single malt, bottled by Wilson & Morgan, aged 18 year old from 2007, drawn from cask 800277 and bottled at 54.7%. 203 bottles in all. Made on the Isle of Mull, Tobermory is the unpeated single malt of the island's sole distillery. The stills carry boil bulbs and an S shaped kink in the lyne arms, which raises reflux.
Made in the high reflux stills from unpeated barley, for a fruity, waxy make with a green lift. A sherry cask wrapped the waxy spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth. Mid age brings a deeper honey and a riper, waxy fruit. Sherry wood suits the oily make, lending dried fruit and a nutty depth. Burn Stewart revived production in 1993, and Distell bought the distillery in 2013. The stills carry boil bulbs and a kink in the lyne arms, which lifts the reflux. Water is drawn from a private hill loch, the Gearr Abhainn, above the town. Its painted home town gives the unpeated malt its name.
At its natural 54.7% it is concentrated. Pear, oily malt and a green note, and the Pedro Ximenez lends raisin, date and treacle. Soft orchard fruit and wax sit behind the cask. The close is long, fruit over a soft oak. This is the fruity side of the Isle of Mull's distillery.
