Description
This is a Tobermory, chosen and bottled by Cadenhead's, a 19 year old from 1995 and bottled at 54.2%. 498 bottles in all. Tobermory is the unpeated single malt of Mull's only distillery, founded in 1798 in the island's painted harbour town. The single malts are bottled without chill filtration at 46.3 percent or higher.
Worked through the boil ball stills for an oily, fruity make, for the waxy, fruity spirit Tobermory is known for. A sherry cask wrapped the waxy spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth. Long ageing brings a deeper waxy, fruity character and a mellow oak. Coastal warehousing lends a mineral edge to the fruity malt. The distillery was refurbished and its stills renewed between 2017 and 2019. Mull's maritime climate works into the maturing casks over the years. It is one of the oldest commercial distilleries in Scotland still working. Tobermory has distilled in the island's harbour town since 1798.
At a natural 54.2% it is bold and full. A fruity, waxy sweetness, and the Oloroso brings dried fruit, fig and a nutty depth. Soft orchard fruit and wax sit behind the cask. The finish runs fruity, nutty and warm. This is a waxy, fruity island single malt.
