A cask strength Nicaraguan ron bottled by The Nectar for its Daily Drams line, a seventeen year old 2000 column still molasses rum with citrus, oak, dried apricot and a peppery, smoky finish at 48.2%.
Description
The Nectar Of The Daily Drams is the rum and spirits line from Belgian bottler The Nectar, and this release takes Nicaraguan rum, a column distilled molasses spirit in the cleaner, more spirit forward end of the Spanish style. Nicaragua, home to Flor de Caña, tends to give drier, crisper rum than its sweeter neighbours.
Seventeen years of ageing, much of it in ex-bourbon wood, has built a structured, savoury spirit. Citrus, oak, nutty notes and dried apricot open the nose, leading into a palate of orange peel, black pepper and a smoky oak edge. The finish stays firm with caramel, roasted notes, more black pepper and barrel. Bottled at cask strength of 48.2% it keeps real grip and concentration, with no sweetness leaned on to soften it. A drier, more vigorous old Nicaraguan ron for drinkers who prefer spice and oak over confectionery.
