Description
The Nectar Of The Daily Drams Island 2014 is a ten year old Fijian rum from the South Pacific Distilleries, bottled by the Belgian house The Nectar under its Daily Drams label. Distilled on a pot still and matured in an ex bourbon barrel, it is bottled at 56%, capturing the woody, funky pot still character that draws drinkers to Fiji while leaning toward the older, more savoury end of the style.
The nose is woody with dried fruit, vanilla and chocolate, while the palate turns buttery and oily with solvent and smoky notes, finishing on spice, salt, chocolate and orange. There is a rubbery, faintly medicinal edge alongside citrus and dried fruit sweetness, the kind of character that defines Fijian pot still rum. At 56% it carries some heat and stays on the rugged side rather than polished, but it drinks well neat for those who already enjoy this distillery. A characterful, old wood driven Fiji for explorers of funk, more about personality than refinement.
