This New Vibrations release from The Nectar is a young Guyanese rum from Demerara Distillers, a blend of pot and column distillates caught at just six years and bottled at a fierce 64.79%. It sits firmly at the youthful, high-energy end of Demerara, more about raw molasses character than the polish of long ageing.

Matured in ex-bourbon and unsweetened, it shows clear Diamond character: alcoholic and overripe on the nose with fruity and woody notes, then a palate of wood, Demerara sugar and leather, finishing spicy and woody with liquorice. It reads a touch young and liquorice-heavy, with a recognisable Guyana sweetness of flavour underneath the heat. This is a punchy, unrefined Demerara that needs water and patience, suited to drinkers who enjoy young, full-proof rum and want to taste the molasses spirit close to the still.
