A wild, high ester Le Galion bottled by The Nectar, unsweetened at 59% and finished in Pedro Ximénez, all black olive, menthol and tropical fruit over a vegetal, briny core, a love it or hate it funk bomb.
Description
Le Galion is a Martinique distillery better known for supplying bulk rum, and this Nectar Of The Daily Drams bottling shows its wildest side, a molasses based rum rather than the island's usual cane juice, built in a high ester, long ferment style closer to Réunion grand arôme or a funky Jamaican white. The Nectar is a Belgian led independent, and this comes bottled unsweetened at a punchy 59%.
The profile is firmly for the funk inclined. Black olive brine and esters lead the nose alongside raisin and vegetal notes, the palate turns medicinal, olive heavy, citrussy and dirty, and the finish carries menthol, more olive, tropical fruit and spice. A Pedro Ximénez cask softens the edges with a sherried sweetness that keeps it just drinkable rather than feral. Wild and experimental, best for drinkers chasing salty, herbal, high ester extremes.
