Description
A distillery release of 1770 Glasgow, bottled at 46%. Founded in 2012 by Liam Hughes and Mike Hayward, The Glasgow Distillery Company brought malt whisky back to the city. The 1770 name recalls that original Glasgow distillery, founded in 1770 at Dundashill.
It was run through the distillery's copper pot stills, to build a clean, orchard fruit character. It was matured in ex-Bourbon oak, lending vanilla and honey. A young distillery leans on lively wood, the cask shaping much of the flavour. The first single malt casks were filled in 2015, the first whisky released in 2018. The distillery is known for an adventurous cask policy, from Cognac and Marsala to Port and Tequila. The 1770 single malt comes in three styles: The Original, the Peated and the Triple Distilled. Water is drawn from Loch Katrine, and the whisky is bottled at natural colour without chill filtration. It sits in Hillington Business Park in the southwest of Glasgow, just off the M8.
Bottled at 46%, it is rounded. Orchard fruit and a light honey lead, and the ex-Bourbon lends vanilla, honey and a soft apple. The texture is young and lively, the fruit lifted by oak. It closes bright, fruity and warm. This is a young, fruity Glasgow single malt.
