Description
This Glasgow malt was from the independent bottler Rolf Kaspar GmbH, aged 7 year old from 2017, drawn from cask 105 and bottled at 57.1%. A release of 482 bottles. Founded in 2012 by Liam Hughes and Mike Hayward, The Glasgow Distillery Company brought malt whisky back to the city. The stills are named for the founders' families and for the MacDonald artist sisters.
It was distilled twice in copper pot stills for a fruity spirit, building the Fresh and Fruity house style. Ex-Sherry wood added a dried fruit richness, fast on the young spirit. The fruity young make takes a wide range of casks well, from sherry to wine. The distillery is known for an adventurous cask policy, from Cognac and Marsala to Port and Tequila. The 1770 single malt comes in three styles: The Original, the Peated and the Triple Distilled. Water is drawn from Loch Katrine, and the whisky is bottled at natural colour without chill filtration.
Bottled at a cask strength 57.1%, it is intense. A fresh, fruity sweetness lead, and the Oloroso brings dried fruit, fig and a nutty depth. Beneath it run apple, pear and a soft spice. The close is warm, fruit over young oak. This is a cask driven young Lowland malt from Glasgow.
