Description
Single malt from The Glasgow Distillery, an independent Scotch Malt Whisky Society bottling matured to 5 year old from 2017, drawn from cask 156.3 and bottled at 61.3%. The Glasgow Distillery Company took its 1770 name from the city's old Dundashill distillery, and revived Glasgow malt in 2012. The 1770 name recalls that original Glasgow distillery, founded in 1770 at Dundashill.
The spirit was worked through copper pot stills for a clean, fruity spirit, for the fresh, fruity make at the heart of the 1770 style. A bourbon cask held it, keeping the fruit to the fore. Natural colour and full strength let the cask character show without dilution. It was named Scottish Distillery of the Year in 2020. The make is bright and fruity, a modern, metropolitan take on Lowland malt. Production has grown year on year as demand for Glasgow malt has risen. The Glasgow Distillery Company was founded in 2012, the first malt distillery in Glasgow in over a century.
At a hearty 61.3% it carries real punch. Green apple and a creamy malt lead, and the ex-Bourbon lends vanilla, honey and a soft apple. It is bright and full, the young spirit shining through. It finishes fresh, fruity and full. This is Glasgow's revived single malt, the 1770.
