Description
This 1770 Glasgow single malt, a 6 year old from 2018, drawn from cask 18/1190 and bottled at 61.8%. 270 bottles in all. Based in Hillington in the southwest of Glasgow, The Glasgow Distillery Company has made single malt since 2015. The distillery is known for adventurous cask maturation, from Cognac and Marsala to Port and Tequila.
It was distilled twice in copper pot stills for a fruity spirit, building the Fresh and Fruity house style. A sherry cask wrapped the young spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth. The distillery's adventurous cask policy is built to bring young whisky to life. The Glasgow Distillery Company was founded in 2012, the first malt distillery in Glasgow in over a century. Its 1770 name recalls the old Glasgow Distillery at Dundashill, founded in 1770 and closed in 1902.
Bottled at a cask strength 61.8%, it is intense. A fresh, fruity sweetness lead, and the Madeira lends raisin and a caramelised nuttiness, and the virgin oak gives vanilla, baking spice and a little coconut. Soft orchard fruit sits behind the cask sweetness. Orchard fruit and a soft oak see out the finish. This is a cask driven young Lowland malt from Glasgow.
