Description
An official Glasgow Distillery single malt, a 5 year old release from 2015, drawn from cask 174 and bottled at 62.1%. 708 bottles in all. Founded in 2012 by Liam Hughes and Mike Hayward, The Glasgow Distillery Company brought malt whisky back to the city. The stills are named for the founders' families and for the MacDonald artist sisters.
It was distilled from Scottish barley in copper stills on Loch Katrine water, giving the bright, fruity Glasgow spirit. A sherry cask held it, the wood lending raisin and walnut. The fruity young make takes a wide range of casks well, from sherry to wine. The Glasgow Distillery Company was founded in 2012, the first malt distillery in Glasgow in over a century. Its 1770 name recalls the old Glasgow Distillery at Dundashill, founded in 1770 and closed in 1902. Makar Gin came first, in 2014, and helped fund the return of whisky to the city.
At its natural 62.1% it is concentrated. Green apple, pear and a soft vanilla lead, and the Oloroso brings dried fruit, fig and a nutty depth. It is fruity and bold, the spirit and oak well matched. It finishes fresh, fruity and full. This is a young Glasgow Lowland single malt.
