Description
A distillery release of 1770 Glasgow, a 5 year old Glasgow malt from 2015, drawn from cask 15/087 and bottled at 53.3%. Only 403 bottles were released. The Glasgow Distillery Company opened in Hillington in 2012, the first malt distillery in Glasgow since 1902. Its 1770 single malt comes in three styles: The Original, the Peated, and the Triple Distilled.
Made in copper stills for the fresh, fruity house make, for a fruity, vibrant make. Maturation in a fortified or wine cask lent red fruit and spice. Years in active oak round the young spirit and add the cask's own character. Water is drawn from Loch Katrine, and the whisky is bottled at natural colour without chill filtration. It sits in Hillington Business Park in the southwest of Glasgow, just off the M8. Founders Liam Hughes and Mike Hayward set out to bring single malt back to the city. The stills are named for the founders' families and for the MacDonald artist sisters.
At 53.3%, undiluted, it is rich and vivid. Pear, vanilla and a citrus lift lead, and the Port cask adds plum and red berry. The mouthfeel is full, the fruit carried on a young body. The close is warm, fruit over young oak. This is a bright, fruity young Glasgow whisky.
