Description
Taittinger produce this prestige cuvée only in outstanding vintages, drawing entirely on Chardonnay from the finest Grand Cru sites of the Côte des Blancs. The wine is made by the traditional method, with a second fermentation in bottle and long ageing in the house historic chalk cellars, which lends the wine depth, finesse and its capacity to keep. The 2014 season gives precision and freshness, and the Brut dosage sits quietly under the fruit. This is Chardonnay in its most linear and mineral form.
The wine is a pale gold with a fine, persistent perlage. The nose is generous, with warm brioche, lemon cream and meringue, candied lemon, ripe apricot, almond and a chalky edge. The palate is precise and well structured, with clean acidity, layered fruit and a mineral thread that runs to a long, finely fizzy finish. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees in a white wine glass. Fine as an aperitif and a match for oysters, lobster, scallops and mature Comté.
