A 19 Year Old single cask Trinidad rum at cask strength, this column still TDL is all mint and menthol over meaty, dirty notes, herbs and tar, dry and bold with a bitter, tea like finish for those who chase Caroni territory.
Description
Bottled by Rum Artesanal from a single ex-bourbon cask, this 2001 TDL is a 19 year old expression of Trinidad's living distillery taken to the heavier, more characterful end of its range. Trinidad Distillers works strictly from local molasses on column stills, usually producing light and fragrant rum, but well aged single casks like this reveal a far dirtier, more savoury side.
Matured to cask strength at 56.5% and left unsweetened, it opens minty and herbal with menthol and eucalyptus, then turns meaty and tarry on the palate, with rubber, bacon savouriness and a dry, herbal grip. The finish runs long on mint, black tea, wood and a bitter edge. Drinkers who reach for heavy Trinidad rum will recognise the menthol and tar signature here, dialled up while staying drinkable for its strength.
