Description
Rum Artesanal, the German bottler working in the unsweetened full-proof tradition, selected this single cask of Foursquare distilled in 1998 and held over twenty-six years. It is the St Philip distillery's classic Barbados blend, matured in ex-bourbon oak, here drawn out to serious age while keeping a remarkably smooth, mellow character.
At 51.5% it leans soft and wood-driven rather than powerful, with coconut, vanilla and a faint glue note on the nose, then coconut, milk chocolate and gentle wood on the palate, closing mild with dark chocolate, banana and oak. The two and a half decades in cask show as deep coconut and chocolate-pudding richness rather than aggressive tannin, with the alcohol well integrated and surprisingly few harsh edges. A classic, coconut-forward Foursquare for those who want serious age and smoothness at fair value, without expecting overwhelming power.
