A single cask Fijian pot still rum from 1423, distilled at South Pacific in 2002 and bottled at eighteen years and cask strength 57.1%, stacking tropical fruit, rubber and high ester funk over honey, tea and firm bourbon oak.
Description
This South Pacific Distilleries release comes through 1423's Single Barrel Selection, the Danish house known for transparent, unsweetened, full proof bottlings. Distilled in 2002 and aged eighteen years, it is a single pot still cask from Fiji, an origin that drinks close to Jamaica in its ester drive but carries its own vegetal, papaya tinged signature.
Matured in ex bourbon wood and bottled at 57.1% without cut, it leads with tropical fruit and a distinct estery funk, rubber and glue at the edges, then settles into honey, tea and liquorice with a herbal, eucalyptus finish. The strength is integrated rather than hot, and time in the glass rounds it. This is a rum for drinkers who already enjoy heavy pot still character from Hampden or funkier Worthy Park and want that intensity wrapped in long ageing and serious proof.
