A sixteen-year cask-strength Dominican single cask from 1423’s S.B.S line, made from cane juice, round sweet cookie and wood notes deepening into roasted dried fruit and chocolate at a balanced 52%.
Description
1423's Single Barrel Selection is the Danish house's transparent, additive-free line, and this 2009 Dominican is a single cask aged sixteen years in ex-bourbon and bottled at cask strength, 52%. Unusually for the region it is distilled from fresh sugar cane juice rather than molasses, lending a different texture to the soft Spanish-style frame.
The nose is round and gently sweet, light cookie and wood notes over hints of plum and cinnamon. The palate is balanced and rounded, lightly sweet with wood, a soft roasted note and a touch of chocolate, the strength carried smoothly. The finish brings roasted dried fruit and more chocolate. Bottled without additives at full proof, this lets the cane-juice base and the long maturation show honestly, a more structured and characterful Dominican than the brand-blended norm. A rewarding pour for drinkers who want depth and proof alongside the region's natural smoothness.
