Description
Silkie Midnight is the darkest expression in the Silkie family from Sliabh Liag Distillers of Ardara, Co. Donegal, the outfit that revived whiskey making in Ireland's northwest and with it Donegal's old taste for a little smoke. This bottling for the Netherlands is a single malt, unusually for a range built on blends, drawn together from five cask types.
Ex-Bourbon, Oloroso sherry, red wine, virgin oak and imperial stout casks all feed the vatting, and the stout wood leads: dark chocolate, coffee and roasted grain over sherry fruit and a red berry seam, with the gentle turf smoke typical of the house drifting underneath. Bottled at 46%, it is a fireside malt made for slow evenings.
