An 8 year old Jamaican pot still from 1423 S.B.S, matured across ex-bourbon and brandy casks so the wood and cognac character lead, with pineapple and floral hints arriving behind a dry, tannic, lightly bitter frame at 46%.
Description
This Single Barrel Selection from Denmark's 1423 reflects the house style of transparent, detail-led bottling, here from a Jamaican pot still distillate that several tasters read as Worthy Park in character. Bottled at 8 years and a sippable 46%, it is certified unsweetened, which the brand documents carefully.
The twist is the double maturation in ex-bourbon and brandy wood, and the cask does most of the talking: cognac, toasted oak and dried fruit on the nose, then a dry palate of wood, pineapple and a burnt edge. Rather than the loud ester funk associated with the island, this leans into structure, finishing on tannins, bitterness and a thread of vanilla. It suits a drinker who wants gentle Jamaican fruit wrapped in firm cask influence rather than a fruit bomb, and it rewards a little patience in the glass.
