A 2009 Colombian single cask from 1423’s S.B.S line, port-finished at 46%, drawing port, caramel and dried fruit on the nose into a palate of oak, raisin and sweet port over a tobacco-edged, dry finish.
Description
Denmark's 1423 bottled this 2009 Colombian rum under their transparent S.B.S Single Barrel Selection and finished it in port casks. Colombia's Spanish-style rons run to coffee, cocoa and dried fruit, and the port wood here amplifies that fruit while the S.B.S approach keeps the bottling honest and single-cask.
The make is column-distilled molasses rum aged ten years and finished in a port cask, bottled at 46%. The nose carries port, wood, caramel and dried fruit, the palate brings oak, a sweet entry, more port and raisin, and the finish turns to oak, tobacco, fruit and a drying edge. It is an uncomplicated, agreeable Colombian where the port influence sits comfortably over a classic Spanish profile. Honestly described, a fruit-and-port-led single cask that is easy to enjoy, leaning gently sweet up front before drying out on tobacco and oak.
