An 11 year old single cask Jamaican blend of pot and column stills bottled under the 1423 S.B.S label from 2008, fruity and funky with almond, pineapple and olive over a bitter, winey finish, full strength and unsweetened at 62.9%.
Description
S.B.S is the transparent, cask-strength Single Barrel Selection from Danish house 1423, bottled unsweetened and non-chill-filtered. This 2008 is a single cask Jamaican distilled on both pot and column stills, combining the weight and funk of pot spirit with the lighter cleanliness of column, aged eleven years.
Matured in ex-bourbon wood and bottled at 62.9% with no added sugar, it opens with solvent, almond, fruit and pineapple, the palate turns to tropical fruit, olive, spice and ester, and the finish stays fruity and funky with a bitter, winey edge. Tasters catch an interesting sour cherry note and a clear ester presence reminiscent of a lighter Hampden, with astringent, dry notes alongside. The pot-and-column makeup gives it both fruity funk and structure, all at full proof. This is a characterful, slightly savoury Jamaican for drinkers who enjoy ester, olive brine and a touch of bitterness, a transparent single cask from a bottler that lays out exactly what is in the glass, even when the result is more challenging than crowd-pleasing.
