An 18 Year Old Panamanian single cask from 2006, bottled unsweetened at cask strength by 1423 S.B.S, strong Port cask influence bringing coconut, nuts, prune and dark fruit over a softer Panama base at 57%.
Description
This S.B.S single barrel comes from Danish house 1423, whose Single Barrel Selection is detail obsessed, transparent and bottled without added sugar at cask strength. The base is a Panamanian molasses rum, column distilled in the soft Spanish style and drawn from a 2006 vintage to eighteen years, then given a pronounced Port cask that drives its dark, rich character.
The nose shows wood, roast, vanilla and a faint glue note, while the palate turns to woody depth, prune, caramel and a Port led sweetness, closing on sweet dried fruit, nuts and wood. The colour is strikingly dark from the wine cask. Although certified unsweetened, it tastes naturally sweet and full thanks to the Port and the long ageing, a useful example of how cask choice rather than dosage can build richness. A rewarding cask strength sipper for drinkers who like wine finished rum with real intensity at 57%.
