Ron Botran Cristalino Sipping Rum

Cristalino rums take an aged spirit and filter out the colour to leave a clear pour that keeps much of the oak-derived flavour, a style that has spread across Central America. This one comes from Ron Botran, made by Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala, the group whose highland, solera-leaning house style runs to butterscotch, honey, vanilla and baking spice. Stripped of its colour, this Sipping Rum should still carry that soft, rounded character, just in a lighter, cleaner-looking form. Bottled at 40%, it is built as an easy after-dinner or chilled pour. Guatemalan rons of this kind tend to be sweetened and sweetness is not disclosed, so expect a smooth, honeyed profile rather than a dry one.
