Description
Ron Botran comes from Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala, the same group behind Zacapa, and shares the highland, solera-leaning approach that gives Guatemalan rum its butterscotch, honey and baking-spice character. This Rare Blend takes that base and finishes it in ex-agave spirit casks, an unusual move meant to layer a touch of tequila or mezcal influence, think a faint vegetal and peppery edge, over the soft molasses core. Distilled on a column still and bottled at 40%, it reads as a gentle, dessert-leaning sipper. Guatemalan rons in this style are usually on the sweeter side and sweetness is not disclosed here, so expect a rounded, honeyed pour rather than a dry one.
