Pere Labat, from the Poisson distillery on Marie-Galante, is a small, well-regarded agricole house, and this L'Or is a lightly aged expression that keeps the cane firmly in charge. Distilled on a creole column from fresh sugar-cane juice and bottled at 45%, it sits between a fresh blanc and a fuller vieux.

The nose is grassy and fresh with vegetal notes and young, sappy wood; the palate brings sugarcane and orchard fruit alongside that young wood and a lively bite; the finish runs dry, vegetal and green. The brief time in oak adds a touch of structure without smothering the herbaceous cane character, so the agricole freshness still leads. Tasters point to strong value and an easy, fresh drinkability.
