Planteray Sealander

Planteray Sealander is a gentle blend from Maison Ferrand spanning several islands, the Cognac based house that ages Caribbean and Indian Ocean rum and finishes much of its range in ex-cognac casks in France. It draws together pot and column still rum from across regions, reportedly including Mauritius, Barbados and Fiji, into a deliberately soft and crowd pleasing style.

This is a sweetened rum and it makes no secret of it, all coconut, cinnamon and vanilla with a wash of milk chocolate, smooth and mild at 40%. In the spirit of honest labelling it should be read as a dessert leaning, dosed blend rather than a dry sipper, closer in feel to the sweeter Zacapa and Bumbu school than to an unadulterated aged rum. Taken on those terms it is comforting and approachable, an easy introduction that works neat over ice or stirred into a relaxed cocktail.
