Description
Nuestra Soledad San Baltazar is a joven mezcal made entirely from Espadin grown in the Oaxacan highlands, where the agave has been cultivated for over a century. The vines here sit at around 1,600 metres on calcareous soil, and the spirit is distilled by mezcalero Gregorio Martinez Garcia. Nuestra Soledad, part of the Casa Cortes family, is a single maker, single village line that sets six Espadin mezcals from six producers side by side to show the terroir of the Valles Centrales.
Espadin gives a sweet, balanced backbone, and this bottling reads ripe and tropical on the nose with caramelised agave, a five spice lift and wet stone. The palate is mineral rich and round, closing on a long, complex woodsmoke note from the pit roast. Bottled at 47%, it keeps the agave and the calcareous character front and centre.
