Description
Nuestra Soledad is the Casa Cortés line of single maker, single village Espadín mezcals, each from a different community in Oaxaca. This joven comes from the Tío Pedro palenque at Lachiguí in the Miahuatlán district, perched above 2,200 metres, the highest source in the range, where mezcalero Pedro Vásquez also produces several El Jolgorio bottlings.
The altitude and calcareous rocky soil give the agave a powerful, complex character. Made in the artesanal style, the Espadín is pit roasted for its ember smoke, then twice distilled and bottled unaged at 48% to keep the terroir clear. It reads richly aromatic, with damp earth, fresh cherry, cedar and cigar box over a peppery, green note, then a lively citrus acidity and a long, dry, earthy finish.
