Mortlach 9 Years Old 2013 (Hogshead Imports)

Hogshead Imports, an independent bottler, drew this 9 Year Old: a 2013 vintage, an outturn of 133 bottles. Mortlach is the Speyside outlier known as the Beast of Dufftown, its worm tubs and 2.81 distillation building a dense, sulphury, meaty spirit.

Nine years in ex-Bourbon left the meaty spirit forward, the charred oak filtering the sharpest sulphur while vanillin began leaching from the wood.

At 58.4% it shows vanilla, cooked fruit and a savoury weight over the oily Mortlach weight, undiluted. The meaty Dufftown style.
