Description
Wilson & Morgan, the Italian independent behind the Barrel Selection range, drew this 15 Year Old, a 1999 vintage, cask 2, an outturn of 622 bottles. Founded in Dufftown in 1823, Mortlach owes its rich, meaty weight to worm-tub condensers and the unusual 2.81 distillation devised by Alexander Cowie.
Across fifteen years the sherry's melanoidins and growing oxidation built dried fruit, nutmeg and leather into the oily, meaty spirit.
At 56.6% it shows dried fruit, chocolate and a nutty, sherried depth on Mortlach's muscular frame, undiluted. A meaty, muscular Mortlach.
