From Signatory Vintage, the Edinburgh independent founded in 1988, this 8 Year Old is a 2012 vintage from a small parcel of casks, an outturn of 1,308 bottles. Mortlach, long the muscular heart of the Johnnie Walker blends, draws its meaty depth from low-copper worm tubs and a 2.81-times distillation regime.

Eight years in Oloroso wrapped the heavy, sulphury make in dried fruit, the sherry's melanoidins giving raisin and fig over the meaty core.

At 59.9% it shows fig, date, leather and dark chocolate over the full-bodied base, undiluted. Big, savoury and full-bodied.
