From Douglas Laing, the Glasgow independent established in 1948, this 8 Year Old is cask DL 11075, a 2008 vintage. Mortlach, the first licensed distillery in Dufftown, runs a 2.81-times distillation and worm-tub condensers that give the heavy, meaty spirit fans call the Beast of Dufftown.

Eight years in ex-Bourbon left the meaty spirit forward, the charred oak filtering the sharpest sulphur while vanillin began leaching from the wood.

At 46% it shows vanilla, cooked fruit and a savoury weight carried on the heavy Dufftown body. Big, meaty and full-bodied.
