Description
From Douglas Laing, the Glasgow independent established in 1948, this 8 Year Old is a 2006 vintage, cask DL 10974. Founded in Dufftown in 1823, Mortlach owes its rich, meaty weight to worm-tub condensers and the unusual 2.81 distillation devised by Alexander Cowie.
Eight years in ex-Bourbon left the meaty spirit forward, the charred oak filtering the sharpest sulphur while vanillin began leaching from the wood.
At 46% it shows citrus and fresh fruit. Mortlach at full weight.
