Mortlach 46 Years Old, a rich, meaty Speyside single malt in ex-Bourbon at 40% from Gordon & MacPhail. Dense, oily and savoury, the Dufftown style.

Description
Gordon & MacPhail of Elgin, whose deep stocks include some of the oldest Mortlach in existence, drew this 46 Year Old, from a 1936 vintage. Mortlach's heavy, savoury style comes from worm-tub condensing and a part-triple distillation through the Wee Witchie, unchanged since 1897.
Forty-six years in ex-Bourbon carried the oily, meaty spirit to a profound, savoury maturity, long oxidation bringing leather, beeswax, old wood and worn fruit.
At 40% it shows citrus, honey and an oak-framed depth over the full-bodied base. Mortlach at full weight.
