From Gordon & MacPhail, the Elgin house founded in 1895 and a long-standing Mortlach bottler, this 32 Year Old is from a 1970 vintage. Mortlach, long the muscular heart of the Johnnie Walker blends, draws its meaty depth from low-copper worm tubs and a 2.81-times distillation regime.

By thirty-two years the sherry, oxidation and evaporation had taken the meaty spirit to its limit, dried fruit and leather worn deep and soft.

At 40% it shows raisin, walnut and a leathery, sherried richness over the oily Mortlach weight. A meaty, muscular Mortlach.
