From Douglas Laing, bottling single casks from Glasgow since 1948, this 30 Year Old is a 1989 vintage from cask DL 13609, an outturn of 267 bottles. Mortlach, owned by John Walker & Sons from 1923, makes a dense, sulphury Speyside through worm tubs and its singular 2.81-times distillation.

By thirty years the robust Mortlach spirit had reached the edge of its life, meaty depth turned to leather, beeswax and dried fruit, the tannins held short of bitterness.

At 44.5% it shows vanilla, cooked fruit and a savoury weight on Mortlach's muscular frame. A meaty, muscular Mortlach.
