Description
Ian Macleod Distillers, owner of Glengoyne and Tamdhu, bottling under its Chieftain's range, selected this 20 Year Old, a 1997 vintage, cask 5249, an outturn of 616 bottles. The first legal distillery in Dufftown, Mortlach builds its meaty weight through low-copper worm tubs and the 2.81 distillation, and has anchored Johnnie Walker for a century.
Twenty years in Oloroso deepened the dense Mortlach spirit into figgy dried fruit and leather, oxidation and ellagitannins adding a nutty, polished structure.
At 58.1% it shows fig, date, leather and dark chocolate over the meaty Mortlach body, undiluted. The savoury Dufftown style.
